Welcome to the Ormond Beach Historical
Trust Website!
The
mission of the Ormond Beach Historical Trust Inc. is to share
the rich history of Ormond Beach through education and
preservation.
The Ormond Beach Historical Trust
(OBHT) is a non-profit organization dedicated to the
preservation and sharing of Ormond Beach’s historical resources.
OBHT was established in 1976, when its primary goal was to save
John D. Rockefeller’s winter home, The Casements, from
demolition. The Casements was ultimately preserved and purchased
by the City of Ormond Beach. Today, it serves as the city’s
cultural center. Since achieving that goal, the Trust has gone
on to preserve and promote some of the most significant
historical sites and structures in Ormond Beach, including the
Indian Burial Mound located on South Beach Street, the Pilgrim’s
Rest Primitive Baptist Church in Bailey Riverbridge Gardens, the
Hotel Ormond Cupola in Fortunato Park, the Anderson-Price
Memorial Building on North Beach Street, and the Three Chimneys
Sugar Mill Ruin on West Granada Boulevard.

Currently, the Trust owns the
1916 Anderson-Price Memorial Building, and administers the
city-owned Hotel Ormond Cupola and the state-owned Three
Chimneys Sugar Mill Ruin. The Trust recently secured a Volusia
County ECHO Grant and raised matching funds to preserve the
Three Chimneys (c.1768), the oldest successful British sugar
plantation, sugar mill, and rum distillery in the United States.
OBHT also administers a Welcome Center at the Billy MacDonald
House at 38 East Granada Boulevard, where it maintains a display
of historic photographs, shows a 20-minute orientation video for
visitors, and offers Trust merchandise for sale as well as
brochures and information on local attractions.
